Clinical Ethics Network + Research Ethics Support
CENTRES is a dynamic programme hosted by the Centre for Biomedical Ethics, National University of Singapore. Established in 2009 by the Ministry of Health, it began as a platform to support ethics committees and build capacity in clinical ethics consultation. Today, CENTRES has evolved into a vibrant initiative that connects and empowers the clinical and research ethics community across Singapore.
What We Do
Deliver High-Impact Learning
We design and run structured, practice-oriented programmes in clinical and research ethics. These are tailored for healthcare professionals, ethics committee members, and biomedical researchers, and delivered through online, hybrid, and in-person formats.
Build and Strengthen Networks
CENTRES fosters a collaborative community of clinicians, educators, researchers, and policymakers. We provide platforms for peer support, knowledge exchange, and joint initiatives across institutions.
Support National Ethics Capability
We work closely with the Ministry of Health’s Healthcare Ethics Capability Committee (HECC) to enhance ethical competencies across the healthcare system.
Promote Ethical Consistency
Through training and engagement, we support the adoption of consistent ethical principles in clinical, transplant, and research ethics—contributing to national standards and best practices.
Advance Ethics Scholarship
CENTRES contributes to research that informs policy, guides ethical practice, and addresses emerging challenges in healthcare and biomedical science.
Engagement with Clinical Ethics Committees
CENTRES hosts quarterly meetings for Clinical Ethics Committee (CEC) chairpersons across Singapore. These sessions are highly interactive, offering a trusted space for peer support and shared learning.
– Collaborative Case Discussions
CEC leaders discuss complex ethical cases and diverse consultation approaches across institutions. These conversations help clarify challenges and promote consistent, thoughtful responses to ethical dilemmas.
– Policy Dialogue & Ministry Engagement
When policies appear misaligned with clinical realities, committee members raise concerns and collaborate on feedback to the Ministry of Health. These efforts have contributed to meaningful policy refinements.
– Updates & Best Practices
The platform also facilitates updates on new laws, publications, and emerging issues. Members regularly share best practices, making this a valuable forum for continuous learning and professional growth.
– A Trusted Support Network
More than a meeting, this is a collegial space where ethics leaders find insight, encouragement, and community.
